How to modify Aquaji's privacy settings

Aquaji lets its users adapt the software's settings according to local privacy laws.

Here's an example. France requires businesses to delete all tracking data within 24 hours and recommends every visitor's biological imprint (also called "embeddings") be purged as soon as a person exits a monitored space. Embeddings contain anonymous demographic data that Aquaji uses for marketing analytics purposes.

You must be aware of the privacy laws in your local jurisdiction so you can configure your Edge devices accordingly.

To ensure Aquaji won't track individuals, you should  purge collected embeddings from each Edge device periodically as this will eliminate the possibility of tracking people as they make their way across monitored locations.

Here are some examples of data purge intervals:

    • As soon as a person leaves the site (highest privacy level)
    • After 8 hours (high privacy level)
    • After 24 hours (average privacy level)

Why collect any embeddings?

Collected data can be used to determine if a person that entered a monitored space is the same person who exited. It can also be used to determine how often a person returns to a monitored space. Without this type of information, it would be impossible to determine these statistics and when you change the purge interval, you limit how long these inferences can be made. If you purge embeddings every 24 hours, you will know if someone returned during the same day. This will not be possible if you purge the data as soon as someone leaves.

The data purge interval has a direct impact on the usefulness of the data that is collected.

Aquaji's privacy settings can be modified in the Edge device's technical profile.

Aquaji ensures privacy by design

    • The software is 100% anonymous.
    • No images or video are retained or stored on the system.
    • Not "facial recognition" but rather "facial detection".
      • A unique, random key is assigned for each detection based on aggregate data (attributes).
      • This information is purged periodically and the interval is user-configurable.
    • No collection or correlation or personal data, or comparison with stored data.
    • No personally identifiable information (PII) is recorded or sold. Attributes are analyzed and stored as metadata.
    • Anti-intrusion server certified by an independent third-party organization.
    • Privacy parameters can be configured to respect local laws and regulations.
